ZPMC named and delivered two SOVs

On August 16th, Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) held the christening and delivery ceremony of “Zhizhen 100” and “Zhicheng 60”, Asia’s first wind power service operation vessels (SOVs) built for Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group in ZPMC’s Qidong Marine Engineering.

“Zhi Zhen 100” has an overall length of 93.4 meters, a beam of 18 meters and a depth of 7.6 meters, with a design service speed of 12.3 knots; “Zhi Cheng 60” has an overall length of 72.76 meters, a beam of 17.5 meters and a depth of 7 meters, with a design service speed of 12 knots.

Both SOVs are specialized and efficient vessels that can carry out continuous maintenance operations in deep sea wind farms, which integrates high-efficiency operation , green operation, intelligent operation, and safety operation.

Meanwhile, the two SOVs are equipped with DP2 power positioning system, both have large cargo space, large load capacity of wind turbine spare parts storage capacity, with self-endurance of more than 30 days, which meets the requirements of unlimited navigation area.

Motion-compensated gangway is the most critical core equipment for SOVs, through the joint efforts of ZPMC and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, “Zhicheng 60” has successfully realized the application of China’s first retractable gangway with wave compensated function, breaking through the “neck” technology, which is a major breakthrough in the field of localization of core equipment for offshore engineering.

The successful naming and delivery of “Zhi Zhen 100” and “Zhi Cheng 60” lays a technological leadership cornerstone for ZPMC’s strategic planning in the wind power field. Implementing SOVs will greatly improve the efficiency of service operations at offshore wind farms in China, including the stages of construction support and operations & maintenance (O&M). These two designs will serve as reliable platforms and provide comfortable working environments at sea.
