The latest ranking of the world’s top 30 shipbuilding groups

Recently, Clarkson, a British shipbuilding and shipping market analyzer, released the order ranking of the world’s top 30 shipbuilding groups.

Data show that in the first half of 2024, the global new ship orders for 280,944,427 compensated gross tonnages (CGT) (1,127 ships), of which 255,733,341 CGTs (795 ships) by the top 30 shipbuilding groups to undertake, based on the CGTs (the same below), accounting for 70.54%.

By country, in the first half of 2024, Chinese shipbuilders contracted a total of 1,806,888,882 CGTs (705 ships), accounting for 64.31%; South Korean shipbuilders contracted a total of 7,163,180 CGTs (170 ships), accounting for 25.5%; Japanese shipbuilders contracted a total of 697,156 CGTs (42 ships), accounting for 2.48%.

Based on new orders received in the first half of 2024, the world’s top 30 shipbuilding groups include 22 Chinese shipbuilders, 5 Korean shipbuilders, 2 European shipbuilders and 1 Japanese shipbuilder.

The top ten in terms of CGTs are China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), HD Hyundai, New Times Shipbuilding, Samsung Heavy Industries, Hanwha Ocean, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, China Merchants Industry, Fincantieri, Hengli Heavy Industries, and Fujian Shipbuilding. The details are as follows:

In terms of global hand-held orders, the world’s top 30 shipbuilding groups include 16 Chinese shipbuilders, 5 Korean shipbuilders, 5 Japanese shipbuilders and 4 European shipbuilders. In terms of CGTs, the top ten are CSSC, HD Hyundai, Samsung Heavy Industries, Hanwha Ocean, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries, New Times Shipbuilding, China Merchants Industry, Imabari Shipbuilding, and Fincantieri.
