Wan Hai Lines to build 20 new methanol dual-fuel powered containerships

On August 12, China Taiwan shipping company Wan Hai Lines announced that due to the long-term development of the operation, the group fleet retirement and replacement, the group’s subsidiary Wan Hai Lines (Singapore) Pte Ltd. will build 16 new 8,000 TEU and 4 new 8,700 TEU methanol dual-fuel powered containerships at CSBC Corporation, Taiwan and HD Hyundai Samho, respectively, with a total value of up to about $3 billion.

According to the announcement, the 12+4 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel powered containerships will be built by CSBC Corporation, Taiwan. The unit price of this containership is of $102.5 million to $124 million, and the total value of the order will be of $1.64 billion to $2.48 billion if the order takes full effect.

It is reported that this order is the first dual-fuel vessel built by CSBC Corporation, Taiwan and the largest single merchant vessel order CSBC Corporation, Taiwan has received so far.

The project is scheduled to deliver the first containership in the third quarter of 2027, with full delivery expected in the third quarter of 2030.

In recent years, CSBC Corporation, Taiwan has complied with the trend of energy saving and carbon reduction in the shipping industry, and actively invested in the development and design of methanol dual fuel powered containerships, which has laid the foundation for the award of this order.

CSBC Corporation, Taiwan is currently holding orders for a total of 15 warships and service vessels, with delivery dates until October 2031 for its Kaohsiung plant and October 2027 for its Keelung plant.
