According to CCTV news on August 9, in the afternoon of August 9, a container ship berthed at the container terminal in the Beilun port area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Zhejiang Province, occurred an accident, which was initially judged to be an explosion of the containers on board, with no injuries reported for the time being.
According to the briefing issued by Ningbo Maritime, at about 13:50 on August 9, 2024, the container ship “YM Mobility” berthing at the Beilun port area, which was loaded with containers of hazardous goods in transit, burst into flames.
Ningbo Maritime Search and Rescue Center has activated the emergency plan after the incident. It included assigning a marine patrol boat to rush to the scene to implement alert, and coordinating with the port fire department to assign three fire tugs and shore-based firefighting forces to carry out emergency response. No casualties have been reported.
It is reported that the container ship “YM Mobility” is owned by YangMing Marine Transport. YangMing Marine Transport has issued an official statement on the evening of August 9th.
According to the preliminary investigation, the ship is carrying a dangerous goods container explosion. This box is declared by the shipper as a refrigerated box to be used instead of a dry box, with no need for plugging in.
At present, immediate fire extinguishing measures have been taken at the scene, the fire has been brought under control, the whole crew of the ship has been safely removed and actively dealt with by the competent authorities and the Huan Ming (Shanghai) International Shipping Agency, a subsidiary of YangMing Marine Transport.
YangMing Marine Transport said that “YM Mobility” is operating on its Far East to Middle East CGX service and will update the announcement when there is further information about its dynamics, cargo transfer, schedule adjustment and other corresponding arrangements.
