Samsung Heavy Industries Delivers a 15,000 TEU Container Ship to Evergreen Marine

Recently, Samsung Heavy Industries delivered a 15,000 TEU container ship “Ever Mega” to Taiwan-based liner giant Evergreen Marine, China, which will join the Asia-Midwest service (PSW7) of OCEAN Alliance, the world’s second largest shipping alliance.

The “Ever Mega” is 366 meters long and 51 meters wide, with main engines supplied by WinGD with an output of 48,500 kilowatts. It is equipped with five diesel generator sets with a power of 17,500 kW to meet the energy needs of the ship and up to 1,000 refrigerated containers. In addition, the ship is equipped with scrubbers.

It is understood that “Ever Mega” is the seventh in a series of container ships of 20 units worth KRW 2.8 trillion signed between Evergreen Marine and Samsung Heavy Industries in 2021. The sixth ship in the series was delivered in March this year, and the remaining 13 units are scheduled to be delivered by June 2025 one after another.

Based on their good cooperation, Evergreen Marine and Samsung Heavy Industries have joined hands again in 2023 to build 16 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-powered container ships, with an order value of KRW 3.9593 trillion (approx. $3.13 billion), breaking the company’s record order intake set in June 2022. The new ships are scheduled to be delivered by December 2027.
