Changhong International won order for 12 19,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships from MSC

According to Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard’s (Changhong International) official wechat news, Changhong International has signed a contract with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container ship shipping company, for 12 19,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered container ships.

This is another cooperation between the two sides following the 10 11500TEU and 10 10300TEU LNG dual-fuel large container ship project, which means that Changhong International formally entered the 20,000TEU-class ultra-large dual-fuel container ship construction team, demonstrating the strong strength of Changhong International to continuously innovate and enrich the “green ship” of container ships.

In addition to the new contract, on August 8, Changhong International has completed the Keel Laying Ceremony for the 3rd and 4th 11,500 TEU LNG Dual Fuel Container Ships (CHB2029/CHB2030) built for MSC, marking that the two ships have formally entered into a new construction stage.

The 11500TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship project has a total of 10 ships, of which 4 are classed by DNV, 3 by LR and 3 by BV. Up to now, 6 ships are in construction.

Based on the comprehensive summary of the first two ships construction experience, Changhong International will continue to do a good job in the optimization and upgrading of the construction program and construction techniques, focusing on breakthroughs in the key nodes and construction technology, to fully promote the project progress, quality and quantity to complete the delivery of the ship.

This series of container ships is a new generation of 10,000 TEU class dual-fuel container ships independently developed by CIMC ORIC, with an overall length of 335 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a depth of 25 meters, a design speed of 20 knots, with full intellectual property rights.

The container ship adopts both LNG and conventional fuel oil propulsion, is of the industry’s most advanced ammonia fuel “Ready” design, and is equipped with a windshield energy saving device. Featuring a double-island arrangement, the ship is equipped with the largest C-type LNG fuel tanks in its class. The endurance of the ship in both LNG and conventional fuel modes meets the demand for a single round-trip on the classic China-Europe or China-US routes, which ensures the owner’s flexibility in operational planning.
