Fincantieri appoints Biagio Mazzotta as Chairman of the Board of Directors

Recently, Italian Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, announced on its official website that Biagio Mazzotta, an expert in Italian public finance, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fincantieri, whose term of office will last until the next shareholders’ meeting.

The move follows the sudden death of Claudio Graziano, Fincantieri’s chairman and a former Italian defense leader who was retired as a general. In May 2022, Claudio Graziano became Chairman of Fincantieri at a key moment in the transformation of the Italian shipbuilding industry.

On June 16, 2024, Claudio Graziano was found dead at his home in Rome from a gunshot wound. Reports indicate that Claudio Graziano had left a suicide note, but police are still investigating his death.

Biagio Mazzotta was previously the State Accountant General of Italy since 2019 and has a long career in public finance, having held various positions in the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. According to information available, Biagio Mazzotta does not hold any shares in Fincantieri.

As Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fincantieri, Biagio Mazzotta who was responsible for overseeing institutional representation, corporate security and internal control and risk management systems, collaborated with Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, in the formulation of domestic and international development strategies and in the promotion of Fincantieri’s internationalization process.

Fincantieri is said to be one of Europe’s largest shipbuilding groups, known for the design and construction of a wide range of vessels, including cruise ships, naval vessels, offshore and specialty vessels, and luxury yachts.
