After the signing of two 50,000 dwt methanol MR product tankers with Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), Vietnam’s Asia Pacific Shipping (APS) has placed another order with two Chinese shipyards after a period of nearly two months.
In industry news, Asia Pacific Shippin has signed agreements with Wuhu Shipyard and Wuchang Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of CSSC, for two 25,900 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers respectively. Each unit is said to cost close to $50 million, with a total order value of about $200 million, and the delivery date is not yet known.
This stainless steel chemical tanker has an overall length of 157.99 meters, a beam of 27 meters, a depth of 14.2 meters, a design draft of 9.5 meters, a structural draft of 10.4 meters, with a service speed of 14 knots. Classed by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), it is of double-bottomed, double-hulled chemical tanker which meets Tier III and EEDI III specifications, and is green, environmentally friendly and energy-saving.
Asia Pacific Shippin is a privately owned Vietnamese shipping company and the first private company in Vietnam to order new ships in China. Its main business is dry bulk, chemical and liquefied gas carriers, and it is committed to ordering clean alternative energy vessels to promote the development of green ships. Asia Pacific Shippin ordered two 50,000 dwt methanol-fueled MR product tankers from GSI as early as during the Posidonia 2024, an international shipping exhibition. This is the second cooperation between the shipowner and CSSC after the LR2 newbuilding project at alian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation(DSIC).
So far this year, Wuchang Shipbuilding has obtained a number of orders for chemical tankers, including two 25,900 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers form Xingtong Shipping; a total of 5+5 25,900 dwt chemical tankers form Junzheng Group; and two IMO 2/3 18,500 dwt chemical tankers for Athenian Sea Carriers of Greece.
In addition, Wuhu Shipyard has recently signed a contract with Donso Shipping, a Swedish shipping company, for the construction of a 22,500 dwt LNG dual-fuel product oil/chemical tanker. This is the fifth 22,500 dwt LNG dual-fuel product oil/chemical tanker to be built by the two companies. Previously, Wuhu Shipyard has also received several orders for chemical tankers.
