Dubai-based offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling has announced that it has sold the “Baltic” jackup rig to an undisclosed buyer for $60 million.
Built in 1983, the “Baltic” jack-up rig completed a major upgrade in 2015 and is expected to be sold in late August 2024. Previously, the rig had been deployed in Nigerian waters.
Following the deal, the “Baltic” will be deployed for multi-year plugging and decommissioning operations in Southeast Asian waters. As part of the deal, Shelf Drilling will provide rig management and operational support.
Shelf Drilling currently has a total of 36 jack-up rigs. Not long ago, Shelf Drilling Winner, another rig in the company’s fleet, was contracted by French energy giant TotalEnergies Denmark to provide services in Danish waters for a 17-month period valued at approximately $68 million over the life of the contract. The contract is for 17 months and is valued at approximately $68 million over the life of the contract, including two seven-month options.
