Changhong International Named Two 5,300 TEU Container Ships at the Same Day

On July 29th, Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard (Changhong International) held the naming ceremony of two 5,300 TEU containerships (CHB2013 and CHB2014) built for NAVIOS MARITIME PARTNERS L. P., the Greek shipowner. The two new shipbuildigs were named “ZIM PELICAN” and “ZIM SEAGULL” respectively.

Classed by DNV, this 5,300 TEU containership has an overall length of about 237.8 meters, a beam of 38.8 meters and a depth of 21.8 meters. This containership overturns the traditional narrow and long design concept and adopts the concept of large wide body to optimize the line shape. Equipped with optimized power reduction main engine, the containership has low fuel consumption and its EEDI energy consumption index is more than 30 below the baseline index, which meets phase 3 requirements.

It is equipped with a 2.5- tier lashing bridge and the ship can carry 3,845 14T containers, which is 145-345 containers more than other designs of the same ships. It is equipped with 1000 reefer container sockets and can carry 750 reefer containers at a time. Equipped with ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD), AMP, SCR and BWMS, it is green and meets the latest norms.

The ZIM PELICAN will be delivered on July 31 and the ZIM SEAGULL is scheduled for sea trials in early August.

It is understood that there are 10 units in the 5,300 TEU containership series, which is the first cooperation between Changhong International and Navios. Since the beginning of the project, Changhong International has delivered five units, with the sixth unit to be delivered soon, and the remaining four units scheduled to be delivered by the end of the year.
