Swedish shipping company Donso Shipping announced on social media that it has ordered a 22,500 dwt liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered product oil/chemical tanker from Wuhu Shipyard, which is expected to be delivered in mid-2027,with an undisclosed contract value. This is the fifth 22,500 dwt LNG dual-fuel powered product/chemical tanker to be built under the partnership.
It is reported that Wuhu Shipyard and Donso cooperated for the first time in 2018, and the first two 22,500 dwt LNG dual-fuel powered product oil/chemical tankers “Prospero” and “Pacifico” were delivered in December 2021 and May 2022 respectively. Among them, “Prospero” was honored as “Tanker of the Year 2021”, and “Pacifico” was honored as “Top 10 Innovative Products of the Shipbuilding Industry in 2022”, which is the representative product of Wuhu Shipyard.
On June 21, 2023, Donso announced that the contract for the re-building of two 22,500 dwt LNG dual-fuel powered product oil/chemical tankers had come into force at Wuhu Shipyard, just one year after the delivery of the first two tankers of the same type.
Designed by FKAB, the chemical tanker meets the requirements of Ice Class 1A with a length of 167.7 meters, a beam of 26.5 meters, a depth of 13.9 meters, a draught of 9.2 meters and a deadweight of 22,000 tons. The fifth newbuilding will be built on the proven design of the previous four sister vessels and will be powered by LNG+Oil dual-fuel propulsion with a 500 kWh battery pack, shore power connection, SCR-Catamiser and waste heat recovery system.
In the product/chemical tanker market, Wuhu Shipyard also announced at the beginning of July that it has formally signed a contract with Transka Tankers, a veteran Turkish shipowner, for four 40,800 dwt MR1 product oil/chemical tankers, with the delivery in 2027.
It is worth noting that this newbuilding project is Transka Tankers’ return to the Chinese shipyard after a gap of 20 years, the main purpose is to replace the old capacity in its existing fleet.
