MARIC inks design contract for 4 dual-fuel powered oilfield workboats project

On July 24, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) and China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) held a signing ceremony for the program and basic design cooperation agreement for two types of four dual-fuel (LNG/diesel) powered oilfield workboats, marking a new level of cooperation between the two sides in the field of offshore engineering equipments.

COSL is a leading global integrated oilfield service provider, whose services cover all stages of offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production. As an important part of COSL, COSL Shipbuilding Division currently operates and manages 240 vessels of various types, and is the largest OSV service contractor in Asia Pacific region and the third largest in the same industry in the world. With years of experience in offshore oil field operation vessels, COSL Shipbuilding Division has developed into the strongest, largest and most complete offshore oil professional service fleet in China.

6500 HP Dual Fuel Powered Oilfield Workboat

This cooperative project will design and build two 6,500 hp and two 10,000 hp dual-fuel powered oilfield workboats, adopting advanced dual-fuel main engine electric-driven fully-rotating rudder-propeller propulsion system, to meet the demand for transportation of oilfield production materials, and at the same time, set a new benchmark in terms of energy saving and emission reduction. After putting into operation, this series of workboats will bring new vitality to the global energy transition and environmental protection. Based on its rich design experience and strong technical strength, MARIC will provide COSL with highly efficient, environmentally friendly and intelligent oilfield workboats, which will help COSL to achieve the objectives of the 14th Five-Year Plan and consolidate its leading position in the global oilfield service market.

In the journey of promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of offshore engineering equipment in China and the world, MARIC has once again demonstrated its strong strength and forward-looking vision as an industry leader. As the earliest established, the largest and the most productive R&D unit of offshore engineering and engineering vessels in China’s shipbuilding industry, MARIC has made a lot of achievements in the field of offshore engineering equipments, which not only fills the blanks in China, but also shows the elegance of “Made in China” on the international stage.

The cooperation with COSL will further consolidate MARIC’s leading position in the field of offshore engineering equipments design and promote China’s offshore engineering equipments industry to a higher level.
