Norwegian car carrier Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC) has signed a contract with CIMC Raffles in Yantai, China, for the construction of a third 7,000 CEU PCTC (pure car and track carrier). NOCC stated that it is adding to its green fleet for the future.
The Oslo-based shipowner’s CEO Olave Sollie revealed the deal in a LinkedIn post. However, neither the amount of the deal nor the date of delivery of the PCTC was announced.
The 7,000 CEU PCTC to be built by CIMC Raffles is a dual-fuel car carrier, which means that it will be able to use conventional marine fuels as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG).
NOCC previously signed a contract with CIMC Raffles for the construction of two 7,000 CEU earliest, According to the news in November 2023. The order also included optional orders, but the exact quantities are unknown. Combined with previous reports, this PCTC may be the previous optional order.
NOCC is understood to have been established in 2010 through the merger of Eidsiva Rederi ASA (established in 1930) and Dyvi Shipping AS (established in 1955). In 2014, 100% of the company’s shares were acquired by Car Carrier Investments AS (CCI), which is owned 50% each by Norwegian shipowner Klaveness Marine and JP Morgan Global Maritime Investment Fund holdings.
