Hanwha Ocean christened a 174,000 m³ LNG carrier

Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) recently held a naming ceremony at its Geoje shipyard for the GasLog Italy, a 174,000 m³ liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier built for the Greek shipping company GasLog.

Ilaria Azzimonti, Head of Eni’s LNG Portfolio, served as the ship’s godmother and christened the LNG carrier.

Construction of the “GasLog Italy” began in March 2023 and it was launched at the beginning of 2024, with delivery scheduled for August 23, 2024.

According to GasLog, the LNG carrier has an overall length of 294.9 meters, a beam of 46.4 meters, a cargo tank fuel of 174,000 m³, and is powered by two HP-2S MEGI engines.

GasLog is understood to have placed a one-time order for four 174,000 m³ LNG carriers in 2021 at an undisclosed cost from then Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, with deliveries scheduled between 2024 and 2025.

The naming of the GasLog Italy is one of a series of four LNG carriers that Hanwha Ocean is constructing for the owner.
