Jiangnan Shipbuilding christened and delivered 15,000 TEU dual-fuel containership to CMA CGM

On July 23rd, Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), named and delivered the fourth one of the series of 15,000 TEU dual-fuel containerships rebuilt for CMA CGM Group, which was named “CMA CGM MAUI”. The next two containerships in the series will be delivered in September 2024.

It is reported that this series of containerships are 15000TEU dual-fuel containerships built by Jiangnan Shipbuilding for CMA CGM, totaling 6 units. This batch of containerships has an overall length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a service speed of 22 knots, and adopts GTT Mark Ⅲ LNG containment system, which is characterized by large container capacity, advanced technology, energy-saving and environmental protection.

This batch of rebuilt containerships adopts the world’s new generation of dual-fuel main engine with Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling (iCER) system, which can automatically track and dynamically adjust the ratio of air and gas through specific algorithms, and can reduce methane escape by 50% in gas mode compared with previous ones, which can reduce GHG emissions by more than 28%.

One of the major problems of double-line construction is the FGSS gas system inspection. To ensure that the subsequent ships have sufficient commissioning preparation time, Jiangnan Shipbuilding took the long commissioning and inspection cycle as the benchmark, combined a large number of short-term work, carried out intensive inspection, and completed the commissioning one week ahead of schedule, laying the foundation for the subsequent dual-fuel containerships to carry out the intensive inspection of the FGSS gas system, and further shortening the construction cycle.
