Chemical tanker “SHENG HANG HUA 6” resumes operation two months after fire

On July 22, Nanjing Shenghang Shipping Co., Ltd.(Shenghang Group) released an Announcement of Resumption of Operation of Vessel “SHENG HANG HUA 6”.

The announcement disclosed that on May 15, 2024, Shenghang Group’s operating vessel “SHENG HANG HUA 6” suffered a fire accident in the engine room of the vessel while it was unloaded and waiting for berthing at the anchorage in Singapore.

After investigation and verification, the accident was caused by a fire in the engine room of the vessel’s No. 1 generator set, which ignited nearby flammable items and triggered a fire in the engine room, and the accident did not result in casualties among the crew, did not cause any third-party property damage, and did not cause any pollution of the marine environment.

According to the announcement, after the accident, Shenghang Group has actively organized the repair work of the vessel, and as of the date of disclosure of this announcement, all repairs of the vessel have been completed.

China Classification Society (CCS) issued the Inspection Report after reviewing and inspecting the vessel’s repair project and relevant functional tests, and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) issued the Departure Certificate. “SHENG HANG HUA 6” has completed the relevant departure formalities and will leave the harbor on July 20, 2024 for resumption of operation.
