Diamond Offshore Wins Lease for a Drilling Rig for $89 Million

Diamond Offshore, a Houston-based drilling contractor, announced that it has entered into a rig lease with Beacon Offshore Energy.

Under the contract, one of Diamond Offshore’s semi-submersible drilling rigs, the Ocean BlackRhino, will be deployed in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, United States of America, for a minimum period of 180 days, with a total value of $89 million, excluding mobilization and any other additional services. The contract includes two additional extension options. Operations are expected to commence late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2025.

Before that, the Ocean BlackRhino will continue to provide services to Woodside until August 2024, after which it will head to Nea Bissau to fulfill its charter with Apus Energy.

It will then proceed to Nea Bissau to fulfill its charter with Apus Energy.In addition, the rig will undergo an inspection and upgrade at the shipyard and provide services to Foxtrot International, which, if all goes according to plan, will result in the completion of a 30-day single well operation in the first quarter of 2025.

According to public information, the Ocean BlackRhino was delivered in late 2014 and built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard (now HD Hyundai Heavy Industries).

The official website shows that Diamond Offshore is a leader in offshore drilling, providing contract drilling services to the global energy industry with a fleet of 12 offshore drilling rigs, including eight semi-submersible drilling rigs and four power- positioned drillships.
