GSI delivered another 16,000 TEU containership

On July 18th, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), named and delivered a 16,000 TEU containership built for CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Limited and MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), And the containership was named “MSC JULIETTE”.

This is the 6th of the first batch of large containerships built in South China. There are 8 units of this series of containerships on order, with a length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a depth of 30.2 meters, a design draft of 14.5 meters, and a capacity of 16,520 standard containers, which is the largest containership built in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area.

Installed with desulphurization tower and reserved for liquefied natural gas (LNG) power function, this containership adopts a new concept of environmental protection, carbon and drag reduction design, and meets the latest environmental protection emission standards, making it a green, energy efficient and large containership.

During the construction period, GSI implemented lean management and clean production requirements, effectively promoted the efficient and orderly connection of work in various regions, and improved the integrity of intermediate products.

Meanwhile, the containership achieved four 100 points in the dock construction stage: 100% in the evaluation of the launching transfer stage, 100% of the lashing bridge to the coating, 100% of the tightness test was submitted for inspection, 100% of the lashing bridge to the coating, 100% of the completion of the testing of the box; generator commissioning, large main engine commissioning and the dock period of the series of containerships have set a record for the shortest cycle.
