Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Receives an Order for a 66,000 DWT Bulk Carrier

Drydel Shipping (formerly Meadway Shipping and Trading), the Greek bulk carrier shipping company led by Costas Dellaportas, is further expanding its fleet.

Drydel recently signed a contract with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding of Japan for the construction of one 66,000 dwt Ultramax bulk carrier at an undisclosed contract price, with delivery expected in 2028.

The newbuilding, which meets EEDI Phase 3 standards, is DryDel’s 11th newbuilding project since December 2021 and the fourth shipbuilding contract the owner has signed with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and its affiliated shipyards. The three previously signed newbuildings are expected to join DryDel’s fleet in 2025 and 2026 respectively.

It is understood that Drydel Shipping officially changed its name on February 19, 2024 to distinguish it from Meadway Bulkers, which was founded in 2021 by George Dellaportas, a family member of Costas Dellaportas.

In April this year, Drydel signed a contract with Japan’s Shin Kurushima Dockyard for the construction of one 64,000 dwt bulk carrier, which is expected to be delivered in 2026, and this is Drydel’s first newbuilding contract since its name change.
