Recently, Imabari Shipbuilding Hiroshima Shipyard delivered a 5,800 TEU containership “OOCL CHENNAI”.
The containership is 254.94 meters in length, 40.00 meters in breadth and 21.70 meters in depth, with a gross tonnage of 57,907. Equipped with a 6G80ME-C10.6 engine, it has a speed of approximately 21.5 knots, is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and is flying the Liberian flag.
“OOCL CHENNAI” can carry a maximum of about 5,920 standard 20-foot containers and is equipped with up to three-tiers lashing bridges on deck, which allows it to carry a large number of reefer containers in the hold and on deck, as well as all kinds of dangerous goods designated by the IMDG Code (International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code).
In order to comply with NOx Tier III regulation for the air pollution prevention, this containership is equipped with the exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) for main engine and also equipped with the select catalyst reduction system (SCR) for generator engines. She achieves high propulsion performance by applying the energy-saving devices, high efficiency propeller and low friction paint for outer hull plating, and her EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) greatly surpasses the rule requirement. It also has the ballast water treatment system and the Inventory of Hazardous Material as for the Ship Recycling Convention.
