NACKS Unveiled Its Self-developed Mobile Welding Robot

From July 4 to 7, Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) demonstrated its self-developed portable welding robot during the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which attracted the attention of the industry.

This 15kg “mini” mobile welding robot can be easily carried by a single person to move, cross the barrier or cross the manual work area. One person can operate several mobile welding robots at the same time. For the small space of the construction site, the complex operating environment, this weld intelligent identification technology, can automatically and quickly find the positioning, weld identification accuracy of up to 100%, welding molding beautiful, without grinding, and flexible robotic arm can be in a small space for a long time to work continuously, and effectively reduce the manual high-intensity welding operations.

The mobile welding robot has been awarded the national intellectual property rights certificate and national utility model patent product certificate, filling the domestic marine mobile welding operations and robot miniaturization application field blank. It is reported that the first batch of mobile welding robots have been put on duty in NACKS assembly workshop.

According to reports, compared with the traditional large industrial robots, this robot has human-machine interaction, collaborative, lightweight advantages, without fixed installation, can easily move between different production areas and structural components, flexible and portable, easy to operate, in the torch reachable range to realize the fully automatic mobile welding, reducing labor costs to a quarter of the original.

In addition, it has self-awareness and self-decision making intelligent capabilities, can automatically match welding process parameters, generate welding paths, and automatically calculate the welding compensation value. Its weld seam is beautifully shaped, welding quality is stable, and welding efficiency is at least 50% higher than that of manual labor.
