Recently, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, Italy’s Fincantieri has launched a cruise ship “Viking Vesta” build for the Swiss cruise line Viking cruise, in Italy Ancona shipyard. “Viking Vesta” is expected to enter service in the summer of 2025 for deployment on Mediterranean and Northern European routes.
“Viking Vesta” is a small cruise ship with a gross tonnage of 54,300 and a capacity of 998 passengers in 499 cabins. To date, Viking cruises’ ocean-going fleet has been built and delivered all by Fincantieri over the past 12 years.
Fincantieri and Viking Cruises have a strong and enduring relationship, with 20 ships built in more than 10 years, including two expedition cruise ships built by Fincantieri’s Norwegian Vard shipyard.
Last month (June 21), Fincantieri and Viking Cruises officially signed a contract for the construction of 2 cruise ships, expected to be delivered in 2028 and 2029. The value of the contract is estimated to be between €500 million and €1 billion.
The two new cruise ships, sister ships to the Viking Vesta, are also small cruise ships with a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 and a capacity of 998 passengers in 499 staterooms. They will be built in accordance with the latest environmental and navigational regulations, equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems, eco-friendly fuels and sustainable zero-emission power generation systems currently being developed in partnership between Fincantieri and Viking Cruises, as well as other innovations designed to minimize exhaust pollution.
