Jiangnan Shipbuilding Wins 2 More Orders for World’s Largest VLACs

September 5 2023, Jiangnan Shipbuilding has signed a contract with Singaporean shipping company Eastern Pacific Shipping for the construction of two 93,000 cbm liquid ammonia carriers.

The design of the 93,000 cubic meters very large ammonia carriers (VLAC) has been derived from the shipbuilder’s fourth generation Panda 93 A-class of very large gas carriers (VLGC) independently developed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding.

The vessel has an overall length of 230 meters, a beam of 36.6 meters, a draught of 12.19 meters and holds a classification from the Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. The carrying capacity of the vessel’s liquefied gas tanks exceeded 93,000 cubic meters, making it the largest ammonia carrier in the world. The vessel stands out as the preferred ship type for long-distance transportation of green ammonia, requireing a single fuel fill to sail around the world. The vessel is a green ship with an energy consumption target that meets the carbon emission requirements of 2030 ahead of schedule.

In May 2023, EPS signed its first order with Jiangnan Shipbuilding for four 93,000 cubic meter VLACs, which is the first time EPS has signed an order to build a large liquefied gas vessel in China. The signing of this contract is the second batch of newbuilding orders placed by EPS in Jiangnan Shipbuilding, and also the second deep cooperation between EPS and Jiangnan Shipbuilding.
