SWS Receives China’s First AIP Certificate for Ship Cybersecurity of 300,000 DWT Ammonia Dual Fuel VLCC

On July 3rd, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s (SWS) self-developed 300,000 DWT ammonia dual-fuel VLCC was awarded AIP (Approval-in-Principle) Certificate for Ship Cybersecurity by China Classification Society (CCS).

The certification meets the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Uniform Requirements for Ship Cyber Resilience (UR E26), and conforms to the requirements of CCS Cyber Security (P[SL2]) notation.

According to China Classification society “Guidelines for Ship Cyber Security”, the cybersecurity rating is divided into five levels from SL0 to SL4.

Compared with the introductory SL0 level, the SL2 level achieved in this project is determined after comprehensively balancing the cybersecurity of the ship and the feasibility of implementation, which not only dramatically improves the ability to defend against cyberattacks, but also adapts to the high cybersecurity demand under the trend of digitalization, intelligence, and green transformation of the shipping industry.

The award of AIP certificate signifies that SWS has matured the ability to solve the overall solution of ship cybersecurity, and has laid the foundation for the subsequent development of various types of ships, offshore products and cruise ships and other products that comply with the cybersecurity requirements.
