On July 4, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it has secured a 328.6 billion won (about $238 million) order for the construction of two Very Large Liquid Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) for an European shipowner at a price of about $119 million each.
This is the second order announced by HD Hyundai this month.
Just a few days ago (July 1st), HD KSOE announced that it had signed a contract with an African shipping company for the construction of four 7,000 dwt product tankers.
The new VLACs will be built at HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries of HD KSOE with delivery by September 2028. The order totaled 266.7 billion won (about $192 million), with a price for each VLAC of about $48 million. It is reported that the order was actually placed by Evalend Shipping of Greece.The four new VLACs are to be built by HD Hyundai Mipo and will be delivered in June 2026 to the owner.
So far this year, HD KSOE has taken orders for 118 ships valued at $12.6 billion, which is 93.2 percent of its annual target of $13.5 billion.
