Beihai Shipbuilding Named A 5,500 TEU Container Ship

On June 28, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd. as the joint seller, held a naming ceremony for the fourth 5,500 TEU container ship built for CMA CGM. The ship was named PRESIDENT HW BUSH.

“PRESIDENT HW BUSH” is the fourth in a series of CMA CGM’s 5500 TEU container ships undertaken by Beihai Shipbuilding in batch. Jointly designed by Beihai Shipbuilding and Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), the ship has an overall length of 255 meters, a beam of 40 meters, a depth of 22 meters, a structural draught of 14 meters and a deadweight of 72,961.3 tons.

Classed by BV, it is a medium-sized boxship with advanced design, low carbon and environmental protection, economy and energy saving, safety and high efficiency by developing ship line shape and optimizing multiple operating conditions, with EEDI lower than the baseline by 53.3%.

It is reported that the integrity of the ship has achieved the best in the series of ships when launched, and the key cycle has been shortened by 45 days compared with the previous ships, which is the shortest in the series of ships under construction.

By the sea trials confirmed, its speed, fuel consumption and other ship performance indicators all meet the technical requirements, and have been praised by the shipowner.
