France’s GTT has announced that it has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to provide the liquid cargo tank design for the Liquefied Natural Gas Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (LNG-FSRU) ordered by Poland’s state-owned natural gas transportation system operator Gaz-System.
Under the contract, the LNG-FSRU will be equipped with the GTT-developed Mark III containment system and have a cargo tank capacity of 170,000 cubic meters.
t is understood that FSRU is a special type of vessel that can vaporize liquefied natural gas (LNG) at sea and transport it to land. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries signed a contract for the construction of this LNG-FSRU valued at KRW 483.9 billion ( about US$364 million) in March 2024, and it is the first FSRU order placed globally this year, with an overall length of 294 meters and a breadth of 46 meters.
The delivery of this FSRU is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.
Japanese shipping giant MOL has now entered into a long-term time charter with Gaz-System for the above LNG-FSRU for a period of 15 years, including an extension option.
The LNG-FSRU has the capacity to regasify 6.1 billion cubic meters of gaseous fuel per year and Gaz-System has signed an agreement covering the full regasification capacity of the offshore unit.
