German shipping company Reederei H Vogemann has returned to a China-based “new shipyard” to order Capesize bulk carriers.
According to Trade Winds, Reederei H Vogemann has placed an order with Hengli Heavy Industries for four additional 180,000 dwt Capesize bulk carriers, bringing its total number of vessels of the same type at the shipyard to eight. The four newly ordered bulk carriers are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2027, while another four bulk carrierss of the same type ordered earlier are expected to be delivered between mid-2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
It is understood that Hengli Heavy Industries and Reederei H Vogemann started their cooperation journey in June 2023, when both parties signed a contract for the construction of four 180,000 dwt Capesize bulk carriers and four 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers. This order marked Hengli Heavy Industries’ formal entry into large bulk carrier construction after entering the mainstream bulk carrier construction field.
Sources revealed that the two sides in 2023 signed the 180,000 dwt bulk carriers of unit cost of about US$ 63.5 million, 82,000 dwt bulk carriers of unit cost of about US$ 34.5 million, the total value of the eight vessels is about US$ 392 million.
After a year, Reederei H Vogemann chose to order 4 additional 180,000 DWT bulk carriers from Hengli Heavy Industries, which means that the number of newbuilding cooperation between the two sides has reached 12 vessels, which will help to further deepen the cooperation relationship between the two sides.
Reederei H Vogemann’s official website shows that the company has a fleet of 15 vessels, including 13 bulk carriers and 2 product tankers.
According to statistics, excluding Reederei H Vogemann’s latest order, all the orders for new vessels that Hengli Heavy Industries has made public this year are for 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carriers, and all of them are from foreign shipowners.
Of these, four were ordered by Sea Traders, a bulk carrier shipping company owned by Greek shipping king George Procopiou, which is the first order announced by HLH since 2024; Four units were ordered by Turkish shipping company Ciner Shipping and are expected to be delivered between the end of March and the end of September 2027; Six units were ordered by Greek shipping company Laskaridis Maritime and are expected to be delivered in 2026; two were ordered by Greek shipping company Veritas Ship Management.
