Jiangnan Shipbuilding launches China’s first MARK Ⅲ membrane 175,000 m³ LNG Carrier

On June 24, the No. 3 dock of Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), welcomed the launching of two vessels, half-ships floating of another two vessels.

The two vessels launched are the first MARK Ⅲ membrane 175,000 m³ large-scale LNG carrier built by Jiangnan Shipbuilding and the first vessel of a series of 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships built for PIL (Pacific International Lines).

This 175,000m3 LNG carrier is independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding, based on the latest and most advanced large LNG concepts in the world, and meets the latest specifications, rules and industry standards, with comprehensive performance indexes reaching the international advanced level. It is equipped with the latest technology dual-fuel system and re-liquefaction system, which further improves the economic performance and makes the maneuvering and operation management more flexible.

As a strategic product of Jiangnan Shipbuilding, this LNG carrier adopts the mode of building the cargo hold section in advance, so as to lay a foundation for completing the construction of the containment system within the dock. Since laid keel, the LNG carrier has taken floating as the key node to carry out the construction work: before floating, it has completed the fast-paced installation work such as the whole hull erection, the the twin-axis rudder system. After floating, Jiangnan Shipbuilding will promote the regional integrity around the systematic construction of the whole vessel.

It is worth mentioning that the cargo hold containment system of the LNG carrier has completed all the main process construction and corresponding test work with the support of the advanced management, creating the best launching status for large domestic LNG carriers, and setting a benchmark for the subsequent construction work within the dock.

The 14000TEU LNG Dual Fuel containership is the first uint in the series built by Jiangnan Shipbuilding for PIL, which is the company’s independently developed “Kun” series. It is a new type of high-efficiency, green, energy-saving and environment-friendly containership designed by Jiangnan Institute of Technology.
