COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) awarded AIP for Ship Cyber Security on real ship

On June 18th, China Classification Society (CCS) issued a Ship Cyber Security approval in principle (AIP) for COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s 64,000DWT bulk carrier, which is the first AIP of CCS for a real ship. This approval meets the requirements of IACS UR E26 and CCS Ship Cyber Security Guidelines at the same time, which provides a reasonable and feasible solution for this type of bulk carrier to meet the requirements of IACS UR E26.

With the wide application of the Internet and computer systems on ships, the risk of cyber-attacks on ships is becoming increasingly serious, which directly affects the safety of ships and personnel and threatens the marine environment. How to satisfy the requirements of IACS for ship cyber security that will come into effect soon has become a great concern for ship owners, shipyards, design institutes and supporting manufacturers.

CCS team held several rounds of technical discussion and centralized office with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan), and based on the list of cyber assets of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s 64,000DWT series of bulk carriers under construction, CCS put forward the proposal of cyber security function setting and security zone division, and finally completed the AIP on the basis of taking into account of meeting the requirements of the latest certification standard and the economy of ship construction. This approval is of good reference significance for similar vessels to meet the requirements of network security.
