Guangxi Shipbuilding to start an offshore platform retrofiting project

On June 15, the three-pile offshore platform “Guozhan”, which is retrofitted by Guangxi Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), successfully arrived at the wharf at the reserved location.

The “Guozhan” platform is the world’s first R-550D jack-up drilling platform retrofitted into a new jack-up workover platform. The main body of the platform is triangular, with an overall length of 97.95 meters, a width of 79.55 meters and a depth of 8.23 meters, with an operating water depth of more than 120 meters and a drilling depth of more than 9,000 meters.

The platform has three triangular truss legs with a total length of 170.22 meters, supported by the pile boots at the lower end, and is equipped with an aluminum helicopter platform, featuring a wide range of operations, strong lifting capacity, large variable load, good environmental adaptability and other high-performance advantages.

As the exploitation of submarine oil resources moves towards the deep-sea, the construction operation becomes more and more difficult, and the requirements for the equipments are also increasing. Therefore, the retrofiting and upgrading of the drilling platform has become an inevitable development.

The main content of this renovation is to replace part of the main structure with a new one, local reinforcement and overall coating. This project is another breakthrough made by Guangxi Shipbuilding in the field of offshore equipment repairs and refitting.

After the refitting is completed, the platform will greatly enhance the adaptability and safety of offshore operations and the comfort of workers’ work and life, and further provide strong protection for the oil exploration industry.
