HD HHI Signs MOU for shipbuilding MRO projects with 9 Companies

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) recently announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for shipbuilding and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) Business with nine domestic and foreign companies related to the field of ship MRO at the Ulsan Dong District Talent Training Center.

Representatives of HD HHI, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Sunjin Entec, HSG Sundong Shipbuilding, B&F Technology, TMG General Engineering, KR Engineering, Youngchang Heavy Industries, Hi Air Korea Representatives from Youngchang Heavy Industries, Hi Air Korea Services and SESCO attended the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, HD HHI plans to expand its existing shipbuilding-centered marine business into the engineering and service fields and to further enhance its order competitiveness by partnering with companies with expertise as the core of the Marine MRO busines in various fields, such as repair specialists, mid-sized shipyards, and maintenance infrastructure construction companies.

In particular, HD HHI plans to expand from business areas such as parts supply and maintenance support to maintenance infrastructure construction, including maintenance facility modernization and floating dock construction.

In addition, by combining HD HHI’s maintenance technology with B&F Technology’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) predictive maintenance solution, which can support effective ship management and rapid response; By applying SESCO’s healthcare services to ships, it is expected to improve the health level and execution capability of the crew; Strengthening survey and certification cooperation with the ABS aims to capitalize on the U.S. Navy’s large fleet of ships and the MRO market.

HD HHI related officer said, “The company will establish partnerships with the most competitive and outstanding companies in the field of ship MRO business both at home and abroad, and grow to be a global leader in the MRO business (including ship newbuilding).”
