SWS christened two 7,000 TEU containerships and delivered another two

On June 11, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Trading (CSTC), christened the sixth and seventh 7,000 TEU containerships, ONE RELIABILITY and ONE REPUTATION, which were constructed for Seaspan Canada. Among them, “ONE RELIABILITY” completed the signature for delivery. This is the third consecutive week that SWS delivered 7,000 TEU containership since the delivery of “X-PRESS PYXIS” and “TS DUBAI” on May 29th.

“ONE RELIABILITY” and “ONE REPUTATION” are of the same type, with an overall length of 272 meters, a beam of 42.8 meters, a depth of 24.6 meters, a design draught of 15 meters, and a design speed of 21.0 kn. Equipped with MAN 6G80ME-C10.5 main engine, the containership meets TIER Ⅲ and EEDI Ⅲ specifications.

The containership adopts “S-BOW” shape, and the hull shape has been optimized through several rounds of comprehensive optimization according to the owner’s operating characteristics with different weights for different drafts and speeds. Combined with low energy consumption main engine, high efficiency propeller, full suspension twisted rudder and energy saving conduit, the containership is equipped with energy saving windshield at the bow, which greatly optimizes the fuel consumption performance, meets the requirements of the third phase of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) as well as the NOx Tier III emission standard. And it is installed with a hybrid desulphurization device, which makes it a green and environmentally friendly containership.

This series of containerships constantly set new construction records for SWS, and “ONE RELIABILITY” has created the record of the shortest period from launching to sea trial for this series of ships, which is also the shortest period of sea trial for this series of ships.

On the same day, the containership “TS DUBAI”, which has christened on June 6, was delivered.

The successive christening and delivery of 7,000 TEU containerships marks that in just one year, SWS has successfully fulfilled the completion and delivery of 24 newbuildings of the same series, demonstrating the strong strength under the batch production mode with lean production as the core concept.

So far, in the first half of 2024, SWS has delivered (including naming) a total of 15 new ships, including one 114,000 DWT Aframax product tanker, two 190,000 DWT fCapesize bulk carriers and 12 7,000 TEU containerships, completing 68% of the annual ship delivery plan.
