South Korea’s Dae Sun Shipbuilding has inked with Moroccan shipping company PetroCab for the construction of a 9,000 dwt chemical tanker, with a order value estimated at $20 million, as South Korean media reported on June 10.
Challah built by Dae Sun Shipbuilding
Under the contract, Dae Sun Shipbuilding is responsible for supplying the segments and related equipment for the 9,000 dwt chemical tanker; a local shipyard in Casablanca, Morocco, is responsible for assembly and subsequent construction.
In 2021, PetroCap ordered a chemical tanker with similar specifications fromDae Sun Shipbuilding through international tender and delivered it in September 2022, named “Challah”.
The Challah, built by Dae Sun Shipbuilding, is said to meet PetroCab’s technical requirements and is equipped with a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) for easy access to ports of berth.
PetroCap’s fleet is based off the coast of Morocco and operates in the Mediterranean, southwest Europe and Northwest Africa, mainly for the import of petroleum products from TotalEnergies, Shell and BP.
