CPGC-developed OCCS Moves Toward Real Ship Applications

On June 7, Power (Group) Corporation (CPGC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), attended the 2024 Shanghai Intl Carbon Neutrality Expo, and signed a framework agreement with BASF on real ship application of the onboard carbon capture system (OCCS).

CPGC has been strengthening its research on onboard carbon capture technology in recent years. In 2023, CPGC successfully developed the first 1000kW-class OCCS system prototype, and successfully completed the verification of a number of key technical indexes, including CO2 absorption capacity and system desorption energy consumption under the joint witness of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK).

CPGC is currently engaged in optimizing the detailed engineering design of the OCCS based on real ship application scenarios, which will be installed on several liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers in the future.
