SWS’s 10,400 TEU Methanol Dual Fuel Large Container Ships Awarded AIP

On June 4, at the Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition 2024 , the 10,400 TEU methanol dual-fuel large container ship independently developed by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) was granted the Approval-in-Principle (AIP) by Lloyd’s Register.

This 10400TEU methanol dual-fuel large container ship is a new generation of green and environmentally friendly large container ship which is developed and designed by SWS independently, and it can carry 10400 standard 20-foot containers.

Based on the double-island design, this container ship provides a methanol fuel power system. It adopts green methanol as the main fuel, which can realize net-zero emission, or conventional fuel oil can be used for propulsion, which fully meets the current environmental emission standards for marine navigation.

Moreover, the container ship is equipped with several energy-saving measures such as windshield, twisted rudder, which optimize the rapidity and reduce carbon emissions while significantly reducing fuel consumption and operating costs, demonstrating SWS’s commitment to leading the green and decarbonized development of shipping with determination and strength.
