New main engine gained approval from eight major classification societies

On June 2,Yu Chai Marine Power (YMP) successfully held the type approval test of YCMP-WinGD X52-S2.0 main engine. There are eight major classification societies around the world, namely ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, KR, LR, NK and RINA, to witness the type approval test.

It is understood that X52-S2.0, launched by WinGD, is a short-stroke two-stroke low-speed engine developed on the basis of X52 engine. It is mainly used for ships with lower main deck height, shallower design draft and smaller propeller diameter, such as container supply ships, multi-purpose ships, PCTC, CONRO ships etc.

Compared with the long-stroke engine X52-1.1, the new engine X52-S2.0 is characterized by more compact size, lighter weight, higher power and lower fuel consumption. This engine meets IMO Emission II standard, and it can meet IMO Emission III standard through the configuration of iSCR or HPSCR, and it is the latest generation of engine with stable operation, green environmental protection, and economic operation.

The type approval test was conducted in strict accordance with the standards of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). After a three-day test, all the test items were successfully completed and passed the acceptance of eight classification societies, and the engine fully complied with the requirements of all classification societies. It means that X52-S2.0 series products with advanced level in the industry have obtained the passport to enter the market.

On June 4, the signing ceremony for the YCMP-WinGD X52-S2.0 main engine type approval test was held in YMP’s loading and testing workshop, with representatives from the eight classification societies, WinGD, and YMP signing together.

Previously, YMP together with WinGD, successfully gained approval in principle(AIP)for two new engines which were witnessed by major classification societies around the world, namely, the W-X40 low-speed diesel engine in 2013 and the RT-flex50DF low-pressure, low-speed, dual-fuel engine in 2015.
