On the occasion of the Posidonia 2024, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Trading (CSTC) signed a contract for the construction of four 111,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel LR2 oil tankers with Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), and signed a contract for the construction of two methanol dual-fuel MR tankers with Asia Pacific Shipping (ASP) of Vietnam.
On June 2, GSI and EPS joined hands again to sign a contract for the construction of four 111,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel LR2 tankers in Athens. After the signing of this contract, the number of EPS’s orders for the same type of vessels in GSI increased to 8, and GSI has become one of the shipyards with the largest number of orders for dual-fuel tankers in the world.
It is a new generation of LNG dual-fuel LR2 tanker developed by GSI with “green” as the guideline and “high efficiency, environmental protection and safety” as the design concept. This LR2 tanker has an overall length of 250 meters, a beam of 44 meters, a structural draft of 14.7 meters, with a speed under structural draft of 14.5 knots. It is equipped with LNG dual-fuel power system, the emission meets IMO TIER III standard, and the EEDI energy efficiency index meets Phase3, making it a modern green LR2 tanker with energy saving, environmental protection and high efficiency.
After more than 60 years of development, EPS has grown to become one of the largest independent shipowners in the world. Based on the global carbon peak and carbon neutral background, EPS, as the industry leader, is committed to ordering clean alternative energy vessels in bulk to promote the green transformation of the fleet. As the world’s largest shipbuilding group, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and EPS have had a long and good cooperative relationship, with cooperative projects involving bulk cargoes, oil tankers and large gas carriers. In the past two years, CSSC has delivered the world’s first LNG dual-fuel Newcastle bulk carrier and the world’s first LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tanker to EPS. This project, as another batch of green energy vessels ordered by EPS from CSSC, will help EPS to follow up the development of clean alternative energy vessels.
On June 3, GSI and Vietnam ASP successfully signed a contract for the construction of 2 methanol dual-fuel MR tankers in Athens.
Developed independently by GSI, this MR tanker has an overall length of 182.99 meters, a beam of 32 meters and a structural draft of 11 meters with a design draft speed of 14.5 knots. Equipped with methanol dual-fuel power system, it meets IMO TIER III emission standards and EEDI Phase 3, making it a modern green MR tanker with energy saving, environmental protection and high efficiency.
ASP is a privately owned Vietnamese shipping company and the first private company in Vietnam to order new vessels in China. Its main business is the transportation of dry bulk, chemicals and liquefied gas, and it is committed to ordering clean alternative energy vessels and promoting the development of green vessels. Currently, ASP operates 21 vessels and has 3 vessels under construction. CSSC is ASP’s first choice for newbuilding in China, and this order is the second cooperation with CSSC after ASP’s LR2 newbuilding project in Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation(DSIC).
