Sumec marine signs construction contract for two Crown 63PLUS with Wah Kwong

On May 30, Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong Transport Holdings Ltd. (Wah Kwong) signed a contract for the construction of two Crown 63PLUS bulk carriers with Sumec marine in Shanghai. The new bulk carriers will be built by New Dayang Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Sumec marine.

Both Wah Kwong and Sumec marine are deeply focused on mid-sized bulk carriers. Between August 2023 and January 2024, Sumec marine delivered 4 Crown 63PLUS to Wah Kwong.

Based on the good cooperation previously established, the two parties deepened their cooperation in April by signing a shipbuilding contract and a strategic cooperation agreement for 2 bulk carriers of the same series.

With the implementation of the contract signing for the 2 option bulk carriers, the two parties will deepen their communication in technology upgrading, especially in further optimizing energy saving and emission reduction.

It is reported that Crown 63PLUS is the first batch of vessels built for Wah Kwong equipped with intelligent systems, and the first delivery of ” Eastern Venture ” is the world’s first vessel to be certified with SMART EnE1 symbol of intelligent energy efficiency by France’s BV Classification Society.
