Medcare Shipping, the shipping company controlled by the Italian Morfini family, is renewing its fleet and has placed an order for three 41,000 dwt product tankers.
Medcare Shipping has publicly identified the three new product tankers mentioned above in the fleet list on its official website, all of which will be delivered in 2027. Although the owner has not yet disclosed the shipyard information, according to shipbuilding sources, the three new product tankers will be built by Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Ship Industry (JLS).
The product tankers in this series are 180 meters in length, 32 meters in breadth with 42,000 tons deadweight, having a 1B ice class notation and flying the Maltese flag.
Medcare Shipping is a tanker and bulk carrier shipping company with a fleet of eight vessels (including three newbuildings), including six tankers and two bulk carriers. five vessels in operation were built and delivered between 2006 and 2010, according to its website.
This is the second tanker order that JLS has made public this year. In March this year, U.S. commodities trader Hartree Partners placed an order with JLS for the construction of six MR product tankers, all of which will be built in accordance with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Type 2 chemical handling standards. The new product tanker will be designed by Swedish ship design firm FKAB Marine Design. This is the first major shipping deal Hartree Partners has struck since it exited the very large crude carrier (VLCC) market two years ago in 2022, with the intention of restructuring its tanker fleet.
JLS is a large modern shipbuilding enterprise with ship repair and construction as its main business, belonging to Qingdao Military-Civil Integration Development Group Co., LTD. and jointly held by Shandong Huiyang Group. JLS covers a total area of 1.8 million square meters and has an annual production capacity of one million deadweight.
JLS has one 300000t dry dock (369m*102m), one floating dock with lifting capacity 35000t(296m*52m), one floating dock with lifting capacity 5000t(108.9m*26m). The total length of the outfitting quay is about 3000 m. The special equipment and facilities for shipbuilding, including 1000 t and 500 t of gantry cranes, are complete. JLS has more than 4500 employees, with a complete and professional talent system, which covers all aspects of shipbuilding.
